Ahun, the Amharic word for “Now,” is a powerful short film created for World AIDS Day 2025 in support of the UNAIDS global campaign #NowMoreThanEver. Told through the eyes of an Ethiopian OB-GYN, the film follows the lives of two women whose stories reveal both the extraordinary progress made in the fight against HIV and the devastating consequences when that progress is allowed to slip away.
Through deeply personal encounters, Ahun explores the realities of stigma, poverty, survival, prevention, and the human cost of shrinking access to HIV services. It reminds audiences that HIV is not a crisis of the past. It remains a challenge that demands sustained commitment, investment, and compassion.
Set against the backdrop of Ethiopia’s evolving HIV response, Ahun is ultimately a story about people rather than statistics. It is a tribute to the healthcare workers who continue to serve, the communities that refuse to give up, and the lives that can still be protected when the world chooses to act.
