English question: Is it safe to keep working while I am pregnant?

Answer:

For most people, yes, you can keep working through pregnancy, and many do right up to the last weeks. Work and study can be a healthy part of your routine. What matters most is the kind of work you do and how your own pregnancy is going.

A few things are worth care. If your job involves heavy lifting, long hours on your feet, night shifts, strong chemicals, or a lot of physical strain, it's worth talking to a clinician about small adjustments. Make time to sit, rest, drink water through the day, and take breaks. Listen to your body, and slow down when you feel very tired.

Some situations call for more caution, for example if you have bleeding, high blood pressure, or a clinician has told you the pregnancy needs extra care. In those cases a clinician can advise what's right for you. Ethiopian labour law also gives working mothers paid maternity leave and some protections around the time of birth, so it can help to ask your workplace what you're entitled to.

If you're unsure whether your work is safe, or you want help thinking through lighter duties, our doctors can help with your own situation. It's free and private, and you'll usually hear back within a few hours. WhatsApp https://wa.me/251908182838, Telegram https://t.me/LetenaEthBot, or https://letena.letena.et/ask/.
