English question: What does consent actually mean?

Consent means both people clearly and comfortably agree to what's happening between them. It's a real yes, given freely, without pressure, fear, or guilt.

A few simple things make it real. It has to be your own free choice, not something you feel forced into. It's specific, so agreeing to one thing doesn't mean agreeing to everything. And it can be taken back at any moment. If you change your mind, that's your right, and the other person should stop.

Consent isn't a single yes that lasts forever. It's an ongoing check-in, where both people keep feeling comfortable and free. Silence or not saying no doesn't count as a yes. A person also can't consent if they're asleep or unable to understand what's happening.

At its heart, consent is about respect. Your body is yours, and you never owe anyone a yes.

If you have questions about your own situation, or something doesn't feel clear to you, you can talk to a Letena doctor in private. It's free, and you'll hear back within a few hours.
